Please note that this vacancy may be withdrawn at any time should it be filled via the internal redeployment processJob Overview We are looking for a motivated and customer-focused Facilities Operative (Retail Assistant) to join our Facilities team at the Royal Gwent Hospital. This is a varied role supporting catering and retail services, ensuring high standards of food service, hygiene, and customer care across the hospital. Come and be part of a supportive team delivering essential services to patients and visitors. There are 3 posts available with the following hours:- Post 1 - 36.5 hours to be worked mornings, days and afternoons over 5 shifts per week. Post 2 11 hours to be worked 14:30 - 20:00 on a Saturday and Sunday Post 3: 26 hours to be worked 12:00 - 20:00 & 16:00 - 19:30 over 4 shits per week Currently we are unable to provide certificates of sponsorship for this role as it does not meet the Home Office’s criteria. Anyone requiring a certificate of sponsorship is therefore unable to be shortlisted and interviewed Main duties of the job Key Responsibilities
- Serve meals, snacks, and beverages to patients, staff, and visitors.
- Prepare basic food items and assist with hospitality functions.
- Operate tills, handle cash, and complete cashing-up procedures.
- Replenish vending machines and retail stock, following good stock control practices.
- Maintain hygiene standards in kitchens, retail areas, and equipment in line with Food Safety and Health Board policies.
- Assist with deliveries, stock rotation, and storage of goods.
- Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and staff.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. - Experience of working in a customer focused environment
- Experience of undertaking a facilities role.
Knowledge & Training Essential criteria
- Good basic education
- Level 2 Food Safety or requirement to attain
- Willingness to undertake accredited & mandatory training relevant to the role
Desirable criteria
- Basic IT skills
- Spoken or written Welsh language
- NVQ level 1/2 in Facilities Services and/or Customer Services
