As a Mechanical Building Services Engineer at ABM, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and functionality of mechanical systems at our client's site, which encompasses over 3 million square feet of factory floor space.

Job Overview:

The Mechanical Building Services Engineer plays a key role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and compliance of all mechanical installations across the client’s manufacturing facility (over 3 million sq. ft.).

This position supports ABM’s commitment to delivering exceptional facility services by ensuring all mechanical systems meet statutory, regulatory, and client-specific standards. The role involves hands-on technical work, auditing, compliance oversight, and support for mechanical safety systems.

Key Responsibilities:

·       Ensure full compliance with all relevant British and European Standards, regulations, legislation, and Codes of Practice related to mechanical safety.

·       Maintain compliance with statutory requirements under PSSR, LOLER, PUWER, COSHH, and other applicable legislation.

·       Support and implement ABM and client Health & Safety, Environmental, and Quality policies.

·       Facilitate client insurance inspections and ensure corrective actions are completed.

·       Participate in developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for compliance and mechanical safety.

·       Coordinate and control all activities associated with mechanical systems to maintain production facilities at optimal availability and reliability.

·       Develop and implement maintenance schedules; monitor and evaluate performance of employees and contractors carrying out maintenance tasks.

·       Oversee and audit mechanical works, including repairs, minor projects, and upgrades, ensuring compliance with standards and use of correct materials.

·       Conduct site surveys, assist with project scoping, review contractor work, and ensure timely project completion.

·       Supervise and report on all Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) activities and generate follow-up action plans.

·       Coordinate and control all activities associated with mechanical systems to maintain production facilities at optimal availability and reliability.

·       Develop and implement maintenance schedules; monitor and evaluate performance of employees and contractors carrying out maintenance tasks.

·       Oversee and audit mechanical works, including repairs, minor projects, and upgrades, ensuring compliance with standards and use of correct materials.

·       Conduct site surveys, assist with project scoping, review contractor work, and ensure timely project completion.

Experience and Skills:

Essential:

  • Level 4 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant mechanical or engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience with mechanical steam installations.
  • Strong understanding of statutory compliance including HASAW, PSSR, LOLER, PUWER, and COSHH.
  • Proficient in use of CAFM systems for maintenance and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality standards.
  • Full, clean UK Driving Licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in large-scale manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Membership of an engineering or compliance professional body (e.g. IMechE).
  • NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.
