Acorns Children's Hospice are now recruiting a Trainee Paediatric Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join the team in our Hospice in Birmingham. As a Trainee ACP, you'll continue to provide autonomous clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for children while studying for an Advanced Clinical Practice qualification starting in January 2027.

About The Role

At Acorns Children’s Hospice, we provide specialist palliative care for children, and young people with life-limiting and life‑threatening conditions, and we support their families through every step of their journey, and through transition. Our work is defined by compassion, expertise, and an unwavering belief that every child deserves comfort, dignity, and the chance to experience joy.

Each hospice is purpose-built with individually decorated rooms overlooking our gardens. We try to make it as welcoming and friendly as possible – a homely environment for the children, young people and their families.

The fully funded Advanced Clinical Practice MSc/PGDip/PGCert will develop your skills in health assessment, clinical reasoning, and judgment, while preparing you to take on a leading role in service delivery through research-informed clinical practice. You'll be challenged and encouraged to think for yourself within your professional role, essential for advancing your clinical practice.

The course will run over three years, part-time, through a mixture of online and on-campus learning. See full course details here: Advanced Clinical Practice. If you have previously completed level 7 modules that map against the multi-professional framework, these may be eligible to be transferred over.

To be eligible to apply, you must:

  • Have experience of working with children and young people
  • Have substantial experience of working at NHS Band 6 level or equivalent
  • Be a registered professional
  • Demonstrate autonomous clinical decision‑making
  • Have experience in leading or developing services
  • Have experience in teaching, supervision, or mentoring

What We Offer

  • £46,920 to £53,040 per annum
  • Based in Acorns in Birmingham Hospice (B29 6HZ)
  • Employee discounts from leading retailers – including the Blue Light Card

  • Bike2Work scheme - save up to 42% on bikes and equipment
  • Wellbeing, legal and financial support
  • Annual leave entitlement increases with length of service

Interviews are scheduled to be held on 17 September

You need to be eligible to work in the UK to be considered for this role. We are committed to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults and therefore any successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check for children and will be asked to provide two satisfactory references. In addition, candidates will be asked to provide evidence of immunisation against specific diseases or confirm their willingness to receive the necessary vaccinations.

As a UNICEF Gold Rights Respecting organisation we are committed to ensuring that the United Nations Convention for the Rights of the Child is embedded into both culture and practice within the organisation. As an employee you will be a Duty Bearer for Children’s Rights and support all children to be Rights Holders.
