Our client is a leading UK civil engineering contractor with an established reputation for delivering complex schemes to an exceptionally high standard has been awarded a major new infrastructure contract in the South of the UK.
To lead the delivery of this flagship program, the business is seeking to appoint a highly experienced and proven Project Director.
This is a critical executive leadership position accountable for directing multi-disciplinary engineering and construction operations from mobilising the site through to final handover.
The successful candidate will hold complete responsibility for operational governance, strategic leadership, commercial integrity, and high-level client engagement on a high-profile, multi-million-pound scheme.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership: Overseeing the execution of the project strategy, setting operational milestones, and ensuring all stages of delivery align with the contractor's exacting standards.
- Commercial & Financial Governance: Holding complete profit and loss (P&L) accountability, managing project budgets, overseeing contract administration (NEC/FIDIC), and mitigating financial risk to protect commercial margins.
- Stakeholder & Client Relations: Acting as the primary executive contact for client representatives, local authorities, statutory bodies, and key supply chain partners.
- Operational Excellence & Compliance: Enforcing rigorous safety, quality, and environmental protocols across all site operations, joint venture partners, and Tier 1 subcontractors.
- Leadership & Resource Management: Building, mentoring, and inspiring a high-performing project management and engineering team to ensure optimal resource allocation and operational delivery.
Candidate Requirements
- A demonstrable track record of successfully directing major complex civil engineering or heavy infrastructure projects (£150m+ CAPEX).
- Substantial executive-level experience with full operational and P&L accountability for major UK contract delivery.
- In-depth expertise in UK civil engineering contract frameworks, commercial management, and regulatory compliance.
- Proven leadership capability with the expertise to steer multidisciplinary teams, resolve critical path bottlenecks, and maintain strong client relationships under pressure.
- Professional qualification and chartered status (ICE, RICS, CIOB, or equivalent) is strongly preferred.
