Everything that makes you unique is welcome; join us and let’s build what’s next - together! At Anaplan, our calculation engine is the heart of our platform, powering real-time business planning for the world's largest enterprises. We are looking for an experienced and influential software engineer to join our core R&D team, to help us build the next generation of this engine. This is a true research and development role where you will solve deeply complex problems in high-performance, distributed computing and directly influence the future of our product. Your Impact

  • Develop Critical Features: Lead the design and development of complex features in our calculation engine, impacting recalculation logic, in-memory data structures, and high-speed data I/O pipelines.
  • Optimise Performance: Design, develop, and optimise novel algorithms for high-performance computing (HPC), ensuring our engine achieves maximum performance on target hardware architectures (including GPUs).
  • Own Complex Systems: Take full ownership of a critical component, from architectural design, through to robust testing and deployment in a production environment.
  • Champion Innovation: Lead research into new approaches and set standards for modern DevOps and software development best practices within the team.

Your Skills

  • Expertise in a low-level systems language. Either Rust (the primary language for this role) or C++ with at least some experience of Rust.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a curiosity to learn and share feedback.
  • Experience designing and building high-performance, multi-threaded, and/or distributed systems.
  • Proficiency researching and developing bespoke algorithms and data structures to solve domain-specific problems
  • Comfort and willingness to work across languages and components as required.
  • A proven ability to analyse, debug, and solve complex technical challenges.
  • A track record of mentoring junior engineers and leading technical design discussions.
  • A "quality-first" mindset, with a deep-seated belief in writing clean, testable, and maintainable code.

Desirable

  • Experience with HPC and/or applying the principles of mechanical sympathy and hardware-aware software design.
  • Experience with CUDA C++ and GPU programming
  • Experience with language design and compiler implementation
  • An understanding of functional programming principles and concepts
