Carry out duties as defined by the Service Administration Manager to meet the needs of the service. To manage and prioritise own workload and work independently to defined policies and procedures. Main duties of the job An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Medical Secretary to join the Neonatal Secretarial Department at Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport. It is essential that the post holder is an organised and motivated individual with excellent audio-typing and interpersonal skills, plus a sound knowledge of medical terminology. The successful candidate will be expected to provide comprehensive secretarial and administrative support across the department as required. The successful post holder must be reliable and flexible to meet service needs and used to working in a busy and demanding environment, with excellent organisational and prioritisation skills. They will be able to work on their own initiative, exercising judgement to solve any problems arising. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply. - Able to deal with patients in a sympathetic manner
- Able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy
Qualifications Essential criteria
- English language GCSE, 'O' level or equivalent
- Knowledge of secretarial procedures to level 3 or equivalent
- Computer literate
- Knowledge of medical terminology
Desirable criteria
- AMSPAR Diploma
- CWS, Welsh PAS and MedSecs knowledge
- RSA III or equivalent
Experience Essential criteria
- Working in a secretarial post
Desirable criteria
- NHS experience
- MedSec experience
Aptitude and Abilities Essential criteria
- Excellent communication / telephone skills
- Prioritise workload
- Exercising judgement to solve problems
- Ability to work with staff at all levels
