Please note that this vacancy may be withdrawn at any time should it be filled via the internal redeployment processJob Overview A unique opportunity to work in the children’s physiotherapy service and alongside the MDT Recovery from Illness (RFI) team, supporting children and young people living with persistent pain and fatigue. This role will involve working in RFI, the equivalent of one day a week, providing physiotherapy input to the MDT assessment meetings, delivering training to education, parents/carers and other health professionals and offering joint sessions with other members of the MDT as appropriate. Will be responsible for managing a highly specialist community caseload at Serennu children centre in Newport. Whilst this will be the predominant base for this role, there would be an expectation to work at other sites and provide clinical support across the whole of ABUHB from time to time as service needs dictate. Will lead on establishing modernised clinical practice and developing an efficient and equitable service offer and upskilling the physiotherapy team. You will direct and lead rotational staff, senior physiotherapists, technicians, and students on a daily basis. We Are Looking For Someone Who

  • Has extensive experience gained in paediatric physiotherapy, including with those with persistent pain.
  • Is committed to innovation and modernisation in children’s services.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership skills and a passion for service improvement.
  • Can work flexibly and adapt to the changing needs of the service.

Main duties of the job

  • Advanced assessment and treatment of a range of paediatric patients, including those with persistent pain, this is a highly specialist and/ or complex caseload.
  • Create and deliver specialist physiotherapy interventions for children across a range of settings (face-to-face and remote).
  • To work independently within scope of practice, competencies and boundaries utilising evidence based practice, making safe decisions regarding the planning, assessment, intervention and support being offered to child/family.
  • To assist in the induction of new staff and support the Band 7 Team Lead where required.
  • Participates to regular management and clinical supervision for area of expertise.
  • Lead and contribute to the development of persistent pain pathways and multidisciplinary models of care.
  • Lead education and training for registered paediatric physiotherapists, support staff, other MDT stakeholders and families.
  • Work in partnership with families to co-create care plans and empower them to support their child’s development.
  • Drive service transformation and quality improvement initiatives alongside senior clinicians.
  • Respond flexibly to emerging service needs and support sustainability through upskilling and collaborative working.
  • The post holder will actively participate in relevant speciality forums, benchmarking, education, audit and research in area of practice.

  • Diploma Degree in Physiotherapy
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Appropriate range of clinical education to MSc or equivalent knowledge or experience
  • Completion of clinical Educators course or equivalent
  • Completion of an appropriate advanced assessment, diagnostic or treatment course recognised at M level or equivalent

Desirable criteria

  • Active participation in relevant interest group
  • MCSP
  • Working towards a relevant higher qualification

Experience Essential criteria

  • Significant experience at Band 6 with appropriate experience within speciality
  • Significant senior postgraduate clinical experience encompassing complex case management
  • Senior post graduate experience requiring people management skills
  • Experience of and commitment to leading clinical and organisational audit
  • Experience of supervising staff, presenting and worked unsupervised at a senior level
  • Experience of developing and implementing clinical guidelines and standards

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of contributing to change management and innovation in clinical practice
  • Experience of integrating user participation in service development
  • Awareness of research principles and findings
  • Evidence of working in the UK as a HCPC registered physiotherapist

Essential Essential criteria

  • The ability to discuss the clinical reasoning process in the management of complex cases
  • The ability to identify and act on adverse clinical signs
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • The ability to lead and work effectively in a team environment
  • Evidence of initiative
  • Good time management
  • The ability to lead discussion in the NHS and challenges facing the physiotherapy service
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant national and clinical guidelines
  • Evidence of continuous CPD
  • The physical ability to perform and cope with all aspects of manual handling as demanded by the job role
  • The ability to adapt to changes in work routine
  • The ability to move between sites as demanded by the job role

Desirable criteria

  • The ability to support the management of personnel issues
  • IT literate
