Please note that this vacancy may be withdrawn at any time should it be filled via the internal redeployment processJob OverviewPLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL ONLY ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FROM STAFF CURRENTLY EMPLOYED BY ANEURIN BEVAN UNIVERSITY HEALTH BOARD.Responsibilities Clinical psychologists working in Intensive Care are responsible for developing and providing interventions focused on supporting well-being in critical care units (including patients, staff and relatives) and during patients’ recovery period, including:

  • Inpatient support and preventative interventions to reduce distress / trauma
  • Development of a psychologically informed environment within ICU to reduce delirium (a key cause of post-ICU trauma) and the traumatic nature of an admission for patients
  • Signposting support for relatives, who also experience high levels of distress and trauma.
  • Staff education, training, supervision and wellbeing interventions (supporting psychological practice within the unit)
  • Psychological support for staff (aid retention, reduce sickness and burnout). The roles support the psychological wellbeing of the team which can lead to a reduction in sickness due to psychological issues.

Main duties of the job Job Summary/Job Purpose

  • To develop and ensure the delivery of an autonomous psychological service for service users of the Critical Care Service including assessment, formulation, intervention and consultation.
  • To provide clinical and strategic leadership for the development of a psychological service within the Critical Care.
  • Along with senior colleagues within the services the post holder will be required to manage the development of the service, providing innovation in line with clinical guidelines and service standards. This will include conducting and supervising research and audit in order to develop and evaluate new clinical and psychological programmes of care.
  • To ensure that appropriate treatment is offered for all people referred to the Critical Care Psychology Service. This is to be provided within the framework of clinical governance, which meets accepted standards of best practice.
  • To participate fully in the professional activities of the Psychology in Physical Health Speciality and the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and ABUHB Psychology Service.
  • To gain further experience of Professional Issues and to be familiar with current strategic thinking in the NHS in general and physical health in particular.
  • To gather audit data to evaluate and develop service.

  • Doctorate qualification as a Practitioner Psychologist

  • Extensive Clinical Experience within Adult Mental health

  • Experience of Delivering Service development Project
