Planner – Ground Engineering | Motherwell
Job Description
Posted on: March 25, 2026
About The Role At Balfour Beatty Ground Engineering, we’re delivering some of the UK’s most complex and technically demanding projects – and great planning is at the heart of everything we do. We’re looking for a Planner to join our team in Motherwell who thrives on turning complexity into clarity. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping how major projects are delivered, working closely with operational teams to drive efficiency, improve performance, and keep projects on track from tender through to completion. You won’t just be maintaining programmes – you’ll be influencing decisions, identifying risks before they materialise, and helping project teams deliver smarter, faster, and more effectively. What you'll be doing You’ll take ownership of project planning activities across both tender and live project stages, ensuring programmes are robust, achievable, and aligned with delivery strategies. From developing tender programmes and defining methodologies, to managing live contract schedules, you’ll play a central role in how projects are structured and executed. You’ll work closely with engineers, project managers, and commercial teams to ensure the most efficient approach is taken at every stage. You’ll analyse project performance data, track key metrics, and provide clear insights that enable informed decision-making. By identifying critical path risks and opportunities, you’ll help drive proactive solutions and keep delivery on course. Alongside this, you’ll manage programme baselines, oversee change control processes, and support effective resource planning to optimise labour, plant, and materials across projects. Who we're looking for We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical planning capability with the confidence to challenge, influence, and collaborate across project teams. You’ll be naturally analytical, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to interpret data into meaningful insights. Strong communication skills are essential, as you’ll be working with a wide range of stakeholders and helping translate complex programme information into clear, actionable plans. You’ll bring experience using planning tools such as Primavera P6, ASTA or MS Project, along with a solid understanding of construction methodologies, project lifecycles, and contract environments. Whether your background is in construction or a related sector with transferable skills, you’ll have proven experience of developing and managing project programmes from early-stage planning through to delivery.
