About The Role
We are looking for a Commercial Manager to become a key part of our innovative and forward-thinking team. This is your opportunity to make a positive impact by managing costs across specialist drainage projects, ensuring they’re delivered on time and within budget.
Principal Duties:
- Commercial Leadership:
- Manage the commercial performance of multiple drainage schemes and frameworks, ensuring profitability, value for money, and commercial compliance.
- Contract Management:
- Administer and manage NEC contracts (typically NEC4 ECC, PSC, or TSC), including early warnings, compensation events, and change control.
- Cost Control & Forecasting:
- Lead cost management, value engineering, and forecasting activities to ensure accurate financial reporting and risk management.
- Procurement & Supply Chain:
- Support the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers in line with company and client procedures. Negotiate agreements and ensure performance monitoring.
- Project Delivery Support:
- Work closely with operational teams to ensure commercial awareness, cost-effective delivery, and compliance with contract requirements.
- Client & Stakeholder Management:
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with National Highways commercial teams and other key stakeholders.
- Reporting & Governance:
- Produce accurate monthly commercial reports, CVRs, forecasts, and risk registers in line with internal and client requirements.
- Team Leadership:
- Mentor and support Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Commercial staff to develop capability and ensure best practice commercial management.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience as a Commercial Manager or Senior Quantity Surveyor within the highways, drainage, or civil engineering sectors.
- Strong understanding of NEC3/NEC4 forms of contract (particularly ECC or TSC).
- Experience working with National Highways or other public infrastructure clients.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong analytical and financial acumen, with attention to detail.
- Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Chartered or working towards MRICS / MCInstCES / MICE (desirable).
