Key Purpose Of The Job We are seeking an IT Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining and supporting the organisation's IT systems, providing support for technical issues and participating the the rollout of new technologies. This role is designed for a motivated individual who is eager to develop their technical skills and gain hands on experience in a dynamic IT environment. Responsibilities

  • Triage, diagnose, and resolve incidents and service requests across Windows 10/11, Windows Server, Microsoft 365, and varied core business apps—meeting SLAs and keeping users informed.
  • Provide first-line and second-line technical support to users, both in-person at the Birmingham office and remotely to field engineers and staff based at other UK offices.
  • Build and develop relationships with end-users and key stakeholders, escalating potential concerns or wider issues to the Head of IT.
  • Assist with the setup and configuration of hardware, including desktops, laptops, and peripheral devices.
  • Create and manage software deployments to workstations, servers and peripheral devices.
  • Develop skills with basic scripting, creating scripts and deployments to workstations and servers.
  • Assist in procurement by speaking to suppliers/vendors and placing orders for the Head of IT to approve.
  • Support the IT team with carrying out project work, such as equipment upgrades and system rollouts.
  • Support the IT team in the troubleshooting, maintenance and monitoring of all IT systems, such as servers and networks.
  • Learn and further develop technical skills related to network infrastructure, server management and automation tools.
  • Enhance the IT teams institutional and technical knowledge by actively participating in knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in routine maintenance tasks, including updates and patch management.
  • Identify and raise process and technical improvements to the Head of IT.
  • Document technical problems, resolutions, and processes in the helpdesk system.
  • Participate in creating and carrying out change control.
  • Maintain an organised and secure inventory of IT equipment and software licenses.
  • Help implement IT security measures and ensure compliance to ISO27001 and Cyber Essentials Plus with established protocols.
  • Develop an understanding of the organisations Cyber Security position by using threat detection and vulnerability systems and remediating where necessary.
  • Respond to high level alerts sent to the helpdesk escalating where required.
  • Protect assets from unauthorised access, disclosure, modification, destruction or interference.
  • Organise the disposal of waste equipment and end of life assets.
  • Participate in the out of hours on-call rota.
  • Occasional travel to other UK offices.

RequirementsEssential Requirements for the Job:

  • Experience working in an IT support or a related technical role.
  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems and basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of networking concepts and the ability to support networked devices.
  • Strong desire to learn and develop skills within the IT field.
  • Good communication skills and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Team-oriented with a willingness to assist and collaborate.
  • Ability to identify improvements and communicate them effectively.
