We’re looking for a Senior Test Engineer to set the overall testing strategy, provide technical leadership to multiple test engineering teams, and oversee delivery of testing activities across complex products. You’ll drive best practice, standardisation, and continuous improvement, ensuring quality outcomes across functional and non-functional testing.
Key Requirements (Essential)
- Informatica PowerCenter (strong hands-on experience)
- Oracle (strong hands-on experience)
Desirable Experience
- Testing within a large-scale data environment (working with large datasets)
- SQL
- AWS
- Automation testing
- Prior experience in a major UK public sector programme (or similarly complex regulated environment)
What You’ll Do
- Define and set the testing strategy for product teams and the wider test engineering community.
- Provide technical leadership across multiple teams and guide test planning and execution.
- Lead delivery of testing activities, meeting quality, time and cost objectives.
- Act as an escalation point for critical defects/issues blocking progress.
- Define test infrastructure approaches and use insights to drive technical improvements.
- Select and introduce appropriate test tools and ways of working.
- Monitor test suite performance and reduce technical debt to improve effectiveness and speed.
- Drive standardisation through reusable libraries/services and sharing lessons learned.
- Align teams on dependencies, impacts and priorities to improve collaboration and delivery flow.
- Develop test approaches and reporting mechanisms suitable for senior stakeholder governance.
- Ensure usability, accessibility, security, stability and capacity are embedded in delivery.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong analytical mindset: you can challenge assumptions, ask the right questions, and communicate findings clearly.
- Proven experience investigating problems and improving processes, even with conflicting information.
- Deep capability in planning and coordinating system and/or acceptance testing, including non-functional requirements.
- Confident designing and running non-functional testing (e.g., performance, resilience, security), and presenting results to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Able to coach/mentor others, raise defects appropriately, and support prioritisation based on severity and risk.
- Pragmatic and outcomes-focused: you can adapt methods to context, support MVP thinking, and encourage experimentation.
- Strong understanding of test tools/methodologies and how testing fits into the wider technical landscape.
