The Role The post holder is a key member of staff providing administrative and technical support to the R&I department for research projects. S/he will mostly be required to work autonomously only referring to the R&I Co-ordinators and Research Facilitators if necessary. The purpose of the post is to encompass the following:
- Controlling the flow of information through the research office, monitoring team performance, and taking corrective action when timelines are not met.
- Providing expert administrative and technical support to a research portfolio(s) teams led by Research Co-ordinators.
- Collecting accurate research data on which is based £millions of research funding provided to GG&C by the Chief Scientists Office (CSO).
- Organising and checking all research study information and validating document sets.
- Operating national schemes which require expertise in specialist administration and software packages, namely the Integrated Research Application System [IRAS], the Research Passport scheme (whereby researchers are provided with honorary contracts), the national research database (SReDA), and the collation of paperwork required to conduct a local permission checks. .
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:
- Location based in Gartnavel Royal Hospital
- 1x Fixed term & 1x Secondment Contract
- 1 post is 2 years in the first instance. Maternity leave cover is for 12 months. Both posts can be considered on a secondment basis
- Shift pattern for this post are Monday Friday (9 5 flexible working hours can be considered)
Key Responsibilities The post holder is a key member of the R&I Portfolio Team but will be expected to work across R&D teams, if and, when required. The Research administrator deals with office and information management issues. These include, but are not limited to:
- Support NRS Performance Manager and Information Officer in data/quality checks
- Provide support for SReDA reporting and for meeting arrangement for Systems & Operations Manager
- Control of research documents entering and leaving the office.
- Upkeep and maintenance of team equipment and reporting of IT problems.
- Prepare, plan, organise and attend meetings of team members with researchers and external bodies.
- Responsible for the dissemination of all R&I communications from and to the Portfolio team.
- Manage weekly committee meeting agenda and any other departmental meetings as they arise
- Provide Research administration support for annual endowment grant call
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:Essential
- Degree in Business administration, Biological Science or equivalent experience
- Ability to balance demands and prioritise own workload. Frequently working unsupervised the post holder will need to be able to respond to competing demands and frequent interruptions
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft Office of Databases and strong IT skills.
- Should have the ability to perform effectively as an individual and as a team member.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate via e-mail, verbal, telephone and written correspondence.
Desirable
- A minimum of 2 years NHS experience or equivalent experience and a good understanding of Research Ethics and Research &Development in the NHS
- An understanding of contracts associated with Research projects
- Knowledge and understanding of medical, scientific and research terminology
