Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced and strategic HR Manager to build and lead our HR function. This is a rare opportunity to establish HR processes from the ground up in a dynamic, high-growth SME. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our culture, supporting business expansion, and driving initiatives that attract, develop, and retain top talent.

Key ResponsibilitiesHR Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and deliver a people strategy aligned with business goals.
  • Partner with senior leadership to drive growth, workforce planning, and organisational development.
  • Lead and oversee day-to-day HR operations, ensuring both strategic and operational HR support.

HR Operations & Processes

  • Design and implement HR policies, procedures, and systems to support scalability.
  • Maintain and evolve employee handbooks that reflect our culture and values.
  • Manage HR systems, records, and reporting to ensure data integrity and compliance.
  • Administer employee contracts, changes, and documentation with accuracy.

Recruitment & Talent Development

  • Own the full recruitment lifecycle - from attraction and selection to onboarding.
  • Implement robust talent management frameworks to retain and grow high performers.
  • Develop training and development initiatives to support career progression.
  • Coordinate induction programmes and probation reviews.

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Ensure HR practices are legally compliant and up to date with UK employment law.
  • Advise managers on employee relations matters, disciplinary issues, and performance management.
  • Handle day-to-day HR queries from employees, escalating where appropriate.
  • Support with payroll preparation, benefits administration, and absence management.

Admin

  • Design and roll out initiatives to boost employee engagement, recognition, and well-being.
  • Organise internal events, recognition programmes, and employee communications.
  • Manage HR administration tasks - from filing and compliance checks to ensuring smooth office support.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven track record as an HR Manager (ideally within a fast-paced SME).
  • Experience in setting up HR functions and frameworks from scratch.
  • CIPD Level 7 qualified
  • Very strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with the confidence to partner at senior level.
  • Demonstrated ability to support rapid growth and organisational change.
  • Passionate about culture, diversity, and creating a positive employee experience.
  • Based in Leeds or Manchester (minimum 4 days a week office-based), with flexibility for travel to London on rare occasions.
