At Rockstar Games, we create world-class entertainment experiences. Become part of a team working on some of the most rewarding, large-scale creative projects to be found in any entertainment medium - all within an inclusive, highly-motivated environment where you can learn and collaborate with some of the most talented people in the industry. Rockstar is on the lookout for a talented Associate Motion Capture Technician to work alongside our passionate teams of animators and technical artists. This is a full-time, permanent and in-office position based in Rockstar’s state-of-the-art game development studio in Edinburgh, Scotland. What We Do

  • As a global Performance Capture team at Rockstar, we collaborate with animators, directors, and artists from around the world, working to produce the substantial range of character animations required for our ground-breaking AAA games.
  • We work with innovative technology to both inform and capture our actors’ movement, facial and audio data to create photo realistic content in our games.
  • We fabricate sets, customize hardware, create props, and utilize every tool possible to achieve the highest standards for our shoots.
  • We capture the core data that serves as the backbone for story and in-game character animations across all of Rockstar’s titles.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that all motion capture equipment, auxiliary technology, and the capture volume are maintained shoot-ready at all times.
  • Prepare and construct both physical and digital props and sets for capture sessions, certifying all assets are up to date and accurate.
  • Set up, brief and otherwise prepare performers for their capture sessions.
  • Acquire, track, and analyse motion capture data, with strong attention to detail, verifying continuity and consistent high standards of quality.
  • Operate in a multifaceted role across data acquisition and virtual production responsibilities, during fast-paced capture sessions.
  • Clear communication to the wider department and global teams, in support of capture sessions, data health, and hardware or software error reporting.
  • Support all phases of performance capture: preparation, production, wrap and post-production.
  • Test and validate software and hardware updates, supporting the advancement of all systems and pipelines through research and development.

Requirements

  • 1+ years experience working in motion capture production or as part of a motion capture-based animation pipeline.
  • Experience working within 3D software packages.
  • Self-motivated with a strong interest in motion capture and animation.
  • Organised approach to working practices, including the ability to multi-task, and prioritise various requests at once.
  • Competence working both in a team-oriented environment and independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Adept at working with a variety of different disciplines and personalities.
  • Comfortable delivering and receiving feedback.
  • Strong tech, maths, and 3D problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail.

PLUSES Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position.

  • Linux OS familiarity.
  • On-set production experience in video games, TV or film.
  • Stage prop craft and construction experience.
