Environmental Scientist – Environmental AssessmentShape the Future of Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development We’re proud to be delivering nationally significant projects and playing a key role in advancing sustainable development across the UK and Ireland. With a strong pipeline of peatland restoration, energy infrastructure, and environmental assessment projects, we are seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our Environmental Assessment team in Belfast. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-profile projects that influence environmental policy, support nature recovery, and ensure that infrastructure development is delivered responsibly and sustainably. If you are passionate about environmental assessment, data analysis, and producing high‑quality EIA outputs, this role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact within a supportive, multidisciplinary, and forward‑thinking environment. Purpose & Scope of the Role As an Environmental Scientist, you will play a central role in delivering Environmental Assessments and related services for peatland restoration and energy infrastructure projects. Your work will include the preparation of EIA Screening and Scoping Reports and the development of robust technical chapters for Environmental Statements. You will interpret complex environmental data, apply relevant planning and environmental regulations, and ensure that assessments meet statutory requirements and client expectations. While the role is primarily desk‑based, you will also attend meetings and workshops with clients and statutory consultees, and you will undertake occasional site visits or field surveys where required. You will work closely with colleagues across ecology, hydrology, planning, engineering, and GIS to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary EIA outputs of the highest quality. Your Impact in this Position In the short term, you will support the delivery of EIA screening and scoping reports and contribute to technical chapters across a range of active projects. Over the medium term, you will take ownership of specific EIA components, coordinating specialist inputs and ensuring alignment with legislation, guidance, and project objectives. In the longer term, you will have opportunities to lead full EIA processes for complex and high-profile developments, support best‑practice improvements, and contribute to shaping the future of environmental assessment within Tetra Tech RPS. Your Toolkit for Success At Tetra Tech, we recruit using core capabilities—the essential skills, experience, and responsibilities required to perform the role effectively. But here’s the secret: there’s no such thing as the perfect candidate. If you meet around 75% of the requirements, we’d love to hear from you. Technical Expertise in EIA Technical expertise for this role centres on a thorough understanding of EIA legislation, processes, and best practice. You will have experience preparing EIA screening and scoping reports, coordinating inputs from specialist disciplines, and writing clear and well‑reasoned technical chapters for Environmental Statements. Strong analytical skills are essential, enabling you to interpret environmental datasets, assess potential impacts, and translate findings into clear outcomes. Familiarity with peatland environments and associated assessment considerations is highly advantageous. Stakeholder Engagement You will work directly with clients, regulators, and consultees to ensure EIA outputs meet statutory and project requirements. This includes attending meetings and workshops, presenting technical information clearly and confidently, and contributing constructively to engagement activities. Your ability to communicate effectively and build positive working relationships will be central to successful project delivery. Project Delivery You will play an important role in managing workflows, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs, and contributing to efficient project delivery. Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines are essential. You will support project managers by providing reliable technical input and by ensuring that workstreams progress smoothly. Teamwork Working collaboratively is fundamental to this role. You will be part of a multidisciplinary team delivering complex and wide‑ranging environmental assessments. You will contribute to a positive team environment, share knowledge and insights with colleagues, and support collective problem solving across ecology, hydrology, planning, engineering, and GIS disciplines. Data Analysis & Reporting You will demonstrate strong analytical capability, interpreting complex environmental datasets and translating them into clear, evidence-based conclusions. This includes managing large datasets, applying quantitative and qualitative assessment methods, and ensuring accuracy and consistency in reporting. You will produce high‑quality technical chapters supported by robust evidence and clear reasoning. Familiarity with GIS tools and spatial analysis platforms will be highly advantageous. Mandatory Requirements You will hold a Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Geography, Environmental Engineering, Hydrogeology, or a related discipline, or possess equivalent relevant experience. Experience in EIA processes—including screening, scoping, data analysis, and technical chapter authorship—is essential. You must be able to interpret environmental data, apply regulatory guidance, and work confidently within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality EIA outputs. Desirable Experience working with peatland environments, restoration projects, or nature recovery programmes is highly advantageous. Experience coordinating EIA inputs across multiple technical disciplines, liaising with environmental regulators, and using GIS or spatial analysis tools will further strengthen your application. Experience delivering environmental assessments within consultancy settings will also be beneficial.
