The Role: Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire A dedicated, full:time Teaching Assistant position is available starting this January to provide specialist support for students with Special Educational Needs. This rewarding role involves working closely with classroom teachers and the SEN department to ensure all students can access the curriculum and achieve their best outcomes. The successful applicant will be an integral part of creating an inclusive and nurturing learning environment.   • Relevant experience working with children or young people, particularly those with SEN.
  • A recognised Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent experience/qualification).
  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
  • Enhanced Child DBS on the updated service (Willingness for one)

  • Excellent Communication: The ability to convey information clearly to students, staff, and parents.
  • Behaviour Management: Proficiency in positive and effective strategies to support student behaviour.
  • Adaptability: The flexibility to respond to rapidly changing classroom and student needs.
  • Teamwork: The capability to collaborate effectively with teachers and other support staff.
  • Organisational Skills: Effective time management and preparation of learning materials.

Core Responsibilities

  • Implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs): Executing bespoke support strategies for students.
  • Facilitate Classroom Access: Helping students to engage fully with lessons and activities.
  • Provide One:to:One Support: Offering targeted assistance to students who require intensive help.
  • Support Small Group Interventions: Running focused sessions to develop literacy, numeracy, or social skills.
  • Assist with Personal Care: Where required, supporting students with personal care needs.
  • Monitor and Record Progress: Accurately documenting student development and feedback to teachers.
  • Liaise with Parents/Carers: Contributing to communication about student progress and needs.
  • Prepare Resources: Creating or adapting learning materials to suit different learning styles.
  • Supervise during Breaks: Ensuring student safety and positive social interaction outside of lessons.
  • Manage Challenging Behaviour: Applying agreed strategies to support behaviour and emotional regulation.
