Closing Date: Friday 24th April 2026 A Little More About Your Role… We are seeking to recruit an Associate or Associate Director (Transport Planning) to join our Transport & Mobility Planning team in Scotland. This role can be based in either our WSP Edinburgh or Glasgow office, with hybrid working allowing for a mix of in-office and home working. As an Associate Director, you will take the lead on a range of transport projects across the WSP business. You will work with senior leadership in the Transport Planning business to further develop and expand our market share with key clients across Scotland and Northern England, as an important component of the wider Transport Planning strategy. This Is a Varied Role, With Responsibilities Including
- Leading on new Opportunities within the region.
- Working with subject matter experts (forming our Expertise Practice Groups) across our business to strengthen the alignment of our technical offer.
- Leading project teams in the delivery of a varied portfolio of Transport Planning work including Business Cases across various Assurance Frameworks, Transport Strategy and alongside colleagues in other service lines to deliver large multi-disciplinary projects.
- Manage the technical delivery of high-quality business cases to enable our clients to unlock public sector funding for infrastructure and operational solutions in the transport sector
- Project manage business case related projects in line with the company’s business management systems
- Develop and articulate new approaches, capabilities and ideas to meet client needs.
- Support to the management team, and wider support for the delivery of our Transport Strategy for the region.
- Leading and encouraging professional development through mentoring team members and training.
You will have an excellent understanding of the local government market in Scotland and Northern England and have an ability to widen the breadth of visibility that WSP has in these markets. This skill set will be coupled with a proven ability to lead major transport planning and multi-disciplinary commissions across the UK, both technically and commercially. - A proven ability to utilise and develop relationships in the local government sector to strengthen our client portfolio.
- A proven track record in managing and directing transport planning projects, both within Scotland and the wider UK.
- An in depth understanding of transport project development processes.
- Significant experience in transport planning including production and review of transport plans and strategies, feasibility studies, Option Assessment Reports and Business Case development.
- Technical excellence in the field of business case production with an in-depth understanding of HM Treasury and DfT business case guidance and recognition of the interdependencies between disciplines for delivery
- Ability to develop and articulate new approaches, capabilities and ideas to meet client needs.
- Ability to produce project reports, including technical documents to a high technical standard.
- Ability to communicate technical arguments to technical and non-technical clients, and present outputs from studies to range of audiences.
- Strong technical and project leadership across a portfolio of projects and clients.
- Experience of negotiating with a range of stakeholders through the application of strong communication and collaboration skills.
