Two young individuals from Gwynedd have embarked on their careers in the construction industry through a collaborative initiative involving Adra, Academi Adra, OBR Construction, and Gwynedd Council.

Rhun Pleming and Ben Saunders have commenced 16-week paid work placements with OBR Construction at the Tŷ Gwynedd housing development sites. This program is designed to offer hands-on experience and skill development in various trades.

Academi Adra, established by housing association Adra in 2021, focuses on providing opportunities for young people to gain expertise in construction. Gwaith Gwynedd, the council's employment support service, plays a key role in connecting participants to this initiative.

Ben Saunders learned about the program via his work mentor at Gwaith Gwynedd. During a week of work experience with OBR, he explored diverse career paths such as joinery and plumbing, gaining insight into site operations and trade collaboration.

"This paid work placement enables me to enhance my skills, explore industry options, and earn a wage while pursuing a full-time career," Ben stated. "The course has inspired me to consider further education to secure lifelong skills for my future."

Cllr Paul Rowlinson, Cabinet Member for Housing and Property, emphasized that such initiatives help bridge the gap between education and employment. He expressed gratitude to the partners for creating these chances, noting that Tŷ Gwynedd developments not only provide affordable housing but also foster practical experience for youth in construction.

Academi Adra praised Ben and Rhun for their achievements and dedication, highlighting the program's role in offering local youth opportunities to learn and advance in the sector.

OBR Construction added that as a local company, they are delighted to showcase the variety of construction work and support skill development. They acknowledged the participants' enthusiasm and hope this experience serves as a stepping stone into the industry, thanking all collaborators for their involvement.
