The UK-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) officially came into effect on 15 July 2026, marking a transformative moment in the economic relationship between the two nations. This landmark deal is projected to boost bilateral trade by £25.5 billion annually in the long run, significantly strengthening supply chains and unlocking new avenues for businesses on both sides of the globe.
Signed in the UK on 24 July 2025, the agreement represents a strategic leap forward in bilateral ties. Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the deal as a “historic milestone” and a “win-win” scenario, emphasizing its potential to drive substantial growth in employment, exports, and overall economic prosperity for both countries.
Momentum continued to build with the UK’s largest-ever government-led trade delegation visiting Mumbai in October 2025. Led by former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, the delegation included over 125 business leaders, university Vice Chancellors, cultural figureheads, ministers, and key government officials. During this pivotal visit, nearly £5 billion worth of new trade and investment deals were announced, directly creating thousands of new jobs and setting the stage for sustained economic collaboration.
