University Hosts Mentoring Programme Event for Students and Industry Mentors

A university has brought together students and professionals as part of a growing career mentoring programme.

The University of Winchester’s professional mentoring scheme, which pairs students with mentors from industry and business, hosted a connections event at its West Downs Centre.

The event gave final-year students and their mentors the chance to meet in person, while industry professionals also networked with fellow mentors.

Dr Lesley Black, the university's director of student support and success, welcomed attendees and thanked the professionals involved.

Dr Black said: "Thank you for giving us your time - it really makes a difference to our students."

She also praised the university’s careers team for their careful matching of students with suitable mentors.

This year’s programme includes almost 80 final-year students from across all faculties, each paired with professionals from a variety of sectors.

Around half of the mentors are Winchester alumni.

The mentoring covers topics such as networking, CV preparation, job applications and interview techniques.

The university is inviting more professionals to volunteer as mentors for next year’s cohort, particularly those working in the humanities, health or creative industries.
