Department for Education Launches National Recruitment Drive for Further Education Careers

In an exciting move to address career transitions, the Department for Education (DfE) has launched the 'Give Your Skills New Life' campaign, created by the newly appointed creative agency VCCP. This integrated initiative aims to act as a national recruitment drive, encouraging professionals seeking a career change to consider training others in further education.

Why This Campaign Matters

Many professionals possess valuable skills but often overlook further education as a viable career option. The campaign is built on the insight that people desire change but hesitate to take a leap into the unknown. By positioning a career in further education as a perfect blend of new and familiar, the DfE highlights how professionals can re-energise their careers by passing on their knowledge to the next generation.

Authentic Stories from Real Trainers and Students

To make this career change feel achievable, the campaign features real trainers and students from colleges across England, including:

  • West Herts Barnfield College (Luton Campus)
  • South Thames College (Wandsworth Campus)
  • Westminster College (Paddington Campus)

This approach champions authenticity, showcasing how transitioning into further education can be a compelling and realistic step.

Campaign Elements and Execution

The campaign includes a series of four 30-second films that use a 'before and after' structure to spotlight professionals at career crossroads. These stories, captured through the eyes of friends and family, explore various catalysts for change and emphasise how moving into further education can reinvigorate a love for one's craft. Directed by George Daniell through VCCP's global content creation studio Girl&Bear, the films aim to make this career path accessible and exciting on a personal level.

In addition to films, the campaign will run across digital, social, out-of-home (OOH), radio, and print media. This multi-channel strategy is designed to weave the campaign into the daily lives of professionals, reinforcing that a transition into further education is an achievable next step.

Key Insights from Creatives

Zoë Stock, creative director at VCCP, shared: "This campaign is all about the difference further education can make for trainers, rather than students. Most of us can relate to professional moments where you feel a bit over it, but equally starting from scratch is just too daunting. It's been interesting to get under the skin of how that feels for people, and to think about how a somewhat unknown career option can be an opportunity to give not just your skills a second life, but yourself one too."

The campaign, created by VCCP creatives Jo Griffin and Ben Buswell, will run from 28th January to 30th March across various platforms, including TV, video on demand, and online channels.
