An Apprenticeship Careers Day recently took place in Blyth, designed to help connect local young people with employment and training opportunities. Hosted by QTS Data Centres, the event was held at the Energy Central Learning Hub and brought together students from schools in Blyth and nearby towns.
Students had the opportunity to meet face-to-face with some of the region's most significant employers offering live apprenticeship programmes. Representatives from businesses and organisations such as the Port of Blyth, Northumbria Police, Newcastle Red Bulls, Cundall, Axis, and Wates were present, alongside QTS, which is set to run one of the UK’s largest data centre campuses once constructed.
During the event, students were able to hear first-hand about the career paths available in various job types and ask questions directly of employers. They were grouped with companies relevant to their declared career interests across five key sectors: emergency services, sport, design engineering, construction, and haulage and logistics.

Rita Patel Miller, social strategy director, Europe, at QTS, commented: "Apprenticeships are a fantastic route into rewarding careers. We wanted to give local students direct access to the employers and the practical guidance they need to take their first steps into the workforce of the future. We’re proud to be playing our part in equipping the next generation here in Northumberland with the vital skills they will need to thrive in the world of work."
The Apprenticeship Careers Day was part of QTS’s commitment to the Social Values Programme, which focuses on providing education opportunities for young people across the region.
