The salary scale for a Band 3 has been adjusted as part of the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026 backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

Whilst ACT and Medicines Management qualifications are required for this post, we welcome applications from GPhC registered Pharmacy Technicians who wish to train and work towards these qualifications. During training, the contract will be Annex 21 of a Band 5 until qualifications are achieved.

The Grange University Hospital is a Specialist Critical Care Hospital which provides the opportunity for our Pharmacy Technicians to work across a range of specialties including Intensive Care, Cardiology, Haematology, Surgery, and Paediatrics. Pharmacy enjoys excellent multidisciplinary links within the Health Board and we are committed to the professional development of our strong team. The Health Board has automated pharmacy systems and a comprehensive medicines management service including electronic discharge.

Main duties of the job

To work closely with the Senior Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists to assist in the daily running of the Medicines Management ward-based service.

To ensure the provision of medication suitably labelled for inpatient use and discharge.

To assess patient’s own medications for suitability of use as an inpatient and upon discharge to prevent duplicate supplies and support cost savings.

To support medicines reconciliation by confirming and documenting medication taken by patients prior to admission to hospital, using

a range of sources.

To appropriately resolve any discrepancies or interventions involving the patient’s medication history and referring back to the ward

pharmacist or appropriate healthcare professional where necessary.

To communicate accurate information to patients, carers, members of pharmacy and other healthcare professionals.

To provide information/counselling on the use of medicines to patients and/or carers, considering the level of understanding and emotional well-being.

To liaise with other healthcare professionals within primary and secondary care with regards to pharmaceutical discharge needs of

patients, particularly for patients who are at risk of readmission as a result of poor compliance

To accurately final check the dispensing of other members of the department, following completion of ABUHB ACPT reaccreditation

To undertake training and assessment of other pharmacy technicians training for this role.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Registration

Essential criteria

  • Registered with GPhC (or due to be by Sept 2026)
  • BTEC / NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Qualification
  • ACT
  • Medicines Management (DHX / MR)
  • Evidence of CPD

Experience
