The Belfast Hills Partnership (BHP) is an independent charity which seeks to improve how the hills are managed. We will do this by working with our partners including local councils, government departments, community groups, nature conservation organisations and businesses committed to caring for the Belfast Hills and their people. The Belfast Hills Partnership acts for all sides and interests in the hills.
Role Description
The River Restoration Projects Officer will work closely with landowners and stakeholders to conduct environmental surveys, develop management plans, and oversee practical site improvement works and engage with local communities and develop a volunteer network. The role aims to enhance biodiversity, promote sustainable land management, and support water quality conservation initiatives.
Qualifications
Essential
1. At least three year’s relevant experience in designing and managing practical programmes of work in nature conservation. OR a degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation Management, or a related field, plus one year’s relevant experience in designing and managing practical programmes of work in nature conservation.
2. A minimum of 5 GCSE passes or equivalent including English and Maths.
3. Strong project management skills including experience of writing tenders, preparing project reports and budgets. Along with the ability to plan and oversee site improvement works.
4. Experience in conducting environmental surveys, developing management plans and overseeing habitat restoration work.
5. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills; including experience of engaging with key stakeholders and working collaboratively with partner organisations.
6. Ability to work independently (including over rough terrain) and as part of a team.
7. Must be proficient in using computers e.g. GIS, for the preparation of presentations, documents for report writing, information for uploading to a web site and in preparing financial and other monitoring information using spreadsheets.
8. Full UK driving license (or equivalent) and willingness to travel as required.
Desirable
1. Experience in managing volunteers.
2. A good working knowledge of GIS systems and applications
3. Pesticide Spraying Certificates and trailer licence
4. Previous experience of working in river conservation, along with farmers and other landowners to develop nature conservation projects.
5. Access to a reliable vehicle
