Job Description

Posted on: September 15, 2026

Are you an experienced engineering or machining professional who can develop customer relationships, identify commercial opportunities and help deliver practical solutions on industrial sites?

Working arrangements: Remote and field-based, with regular contact with Glasgow HQ

Travel: Regional travel, with occasional UK-wide and international travel

Reekie Machining is a specialist in-situ machining and engineering services company based in Glasgow. We deliver precision machining solutions directly at customers' sites, particularly where conventional workshop machining is not practical.

Why Join Reekie Machining?

This is an opportunity to join a specialist engineering business and play an important part in developing its presence across Southwest England.

You will have the freedom to develop customer relationships and regional opportunities, supported by an established technical and operational team in Glasgow.

The position offers a varied combination of business development, project engineering, operations and on-site delivery.

Our services include portable machining, engineering preparation, project support and on-site execution for customers throughout the UK and internationally.

We are now looking for an experienced engineering professional to strengthen our presence across Plymouth, Bristol and Southwest England.

The Role

This is a varied and commercially important role combining business development, project engineering, operational support and site execution.

You will become a key regional contact for Reekie Machining, developing relationships with existing and prospective customers while helping to ensure projects are properly assessed, planned and delivered.

This is not a traditional sales role. You will need to understand machining, engineering and industrial site environments, enabling you to discuss customer requirements confidently with engineers, project managers, maintenance teams, procurement departments and senior customer personnel.

You will identify opportunities, understand customers' technical and operational requirements and work closely with our Glasgow headquarters to develop practical and commercially viable solutions. You will also support projects on-site and execute work within your area of competence when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain relationships with existing and prospective customers across the Southwest.
  • Identify opportunities for in-situ machining and associated engineering services.
  • Increase Reekie Machining's presence within relevant industrial sectors and customer organisations.
  • Attend customer meetings, site visits, technical discussions and tender opportunities.
  • Understand customer challenges and identify practical engineering solutions.
  • Support the preparation of quotations, tenders, technical proposals and project scopes.
  • Develop opportunities from initial enquiry through to order placement and project delivery.
  • Maintain an effective regional opportunity pipeline.
  • Report regularly to Glasgow HQ on customer activity, opportunities and market development.
  • Act as a regional link between customers, site teams and Glasgow HQ.
  • Review engineering requirements and help establish suitable machining solutions.
  • Support project planning, mobilisation, tooling and resource requirements.
  • Assess site constraints, access arrangements, permits, RAMS, equipment and personnel requirements.
  • Work with the Operations team to ensure projects are technically and commercially deliverable.
  • Support Reekie Machining's site teams during project delivery.
  • Help resolve operational issues and customer requirements during live projects.
  • Support project close-out, capture feedback and identify improvements for future delivery.
  • Execute site-based scopes of work when required and within your area of competence.

About You

We are looking for someone who can operate confidently across technical, operational and commercial environments. You will be practical, customer-focused and willing to remain hands-on when required.

You may currently be, or have previously worked as, a:

  • Project Engineer
  • Project Manager
  • Mechanical Engineer
  • Site Engineer
  • Shutdown Lead
  • Machinist who has progressed into project, operational or commercial responsibilities

Ideally, you will be fully competent within a machining discipline and have experience working in industrial site environments.

Essential Experience

  • A strong engineering or machining background.
  • Experience working within an industrial engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of machining processes and engineering applications.
  • Project or operational delivery experience.
  • The ability to understand technical requirements and develop practical solutions.
  • Experience working directly with customers.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage a regional workload.
  • A willingness to travel to customer sites.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

  • In-situ machining experience.
  • A machining trade background.
  • Project engineering or site execution experience.
  • Experience working on major industrial sites.
  • Knowledge of site passes, inductions, competency requirements and permit systems.
  • Experience within oil and gas, nuclear, power generation, petrochemical, marine, renewables or heavy engineering.
  • Experience with RAMS, permits, site mobilisation and engineering documentation.
  • Existing customer relationships within the Southwest industrial market.
  • Experience preparing quotations, tenders or commercial proposals.
  • NEBOSH, IOSH or other relevant health and safety training.
  • An HNC, HND or degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent engineering experience.

Key Attributes

  • Engineering minded
  • Commercially aware
  • Operationally capable
  • Customer focused
  • Self-motivated
  • Practical and solution driven
  • Comfortable working on industrial sites
  • Confident dealing with senior customer personnel
  • Able to work independently while operating as part of a wider team
  • Standards driven delivery professional
  • Team Leader qualities

What We Are Looking For

Above all, you will be technically credible, commercially aware and operationally capable.

You should be comfortable visiting an industrial site, understanding a customer's problem and discussing its engineering requirements before working with our Glasgow team to develop and deliver the right solution.

You will need to be proactive, practical and able to create opportunities rather than waiting for them to come to you. You should also be confident working independently while remaining closely connected to our technical, operational and management teams.

Salary

Competitive salary based on experience and qualifications.

If you have an engineering or machining background and would like to combine your technical knowledge with customer development and project delivery, we would like to hear from you.
