Job Description
This is a high-impact role responsible for driving value by shaping the client's overarching acquisition and retention strategy for Energy. You will act as a key thought partner to commercial leadership, influencing how we price our products and services in collaboration with the Pricing team, who are experts in delivering and structuring Energy Tariffs. This role demands a blend of deep analytical expertise, strong commercial insight, and the ability to influence decisions across a range of experienced individuals to help set long-term strategic direction.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Counsel on Commercial Strategy: Act as the Commercial Performance Business Partner for commercial leads. Provide in-depth analysis and modeling to shape and validate commercial strategies. Ensure that our pricing and acquisition approach promotes both customer growth and long-term value, while also holding leads accountable for delivery after assessment.
- Influence Pricing Execution: Support the Head of Commercial Performance by collaborating with the Pricing team. Offer strategic guidance, analytical challenges, and supportive frameworks to ensure that daily pricing activities align with long-term strategies, articulating the balance between short-term and long-term trade-offs.
- Value Optimization: Leverage experience with various pricing strategies to develop models that assess the long-term impact of different pricing approaches and customer segments, ensuring decisions are data-driven and commercially sound.
- Financial Impact Partnership: Work closely with the Finance and Energy Market Optimization (EMO) teams to develop robust methods for quantifying the financial impact of sales, pricing, and acquisition activities, maintaining a consistent view of commercial performance.
First 3 Months Objectives:
- Develop a deep understanding of the client's commercial objectives, pricing frameworks, and the competitive/regulatory landscape.
- Establish strong, collaborative relationships with key stakeholders and become a trusted advisor.
- Deliver an initial assessment of key drivers of value within the Energy Business, presenting a clear hypothesis on opportunities for enhancement.
- Actively influence a key commercial strategy by providing data-driven recommendations incorporated into the plan.
Candidate Profile:
- Demonstrated experience in strategic pricing or commercial strategy roles, preferably within the energy sector or a similarly regulated industry.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful pricing strategies that yield tangible business results.
- Highly strategic thinker with the ability to connect disparate data points and anticipate future market trends.
- Exceptional analytical and quantitative skills, with strong proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and SQL for handling complex datasets.
- Outstanding communicator and influencer, capable of building strong relationships and presenting complex ideas simply and persuasively to senior stakeholders.
- Natural self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, and proactive in identifying and solving unstructured problems.
- Experienced in working on cross-functional projects and collaborating effectively with colleagues across different teams.
- Commercially astute with a deep understanding of key drivers of business value and profitability.
- Financially fluent, with a clear comprehension of a P&L and the ability to link commercial decisions to financial outcomes.
