Assistant Director - AML Data Analytics and Process Transformation Assistant Director

  • AML Data Analytics and Process Transformation Supervision (Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing) Department

The Bermuda Monetary Authority (Authority or BMA) is seeking an Assistant Director, AML Data Analytics and Process Transformation, to join the Supervision (Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing) Department. Reporting to the Director, AML/ATF Supervision, the post-holder will lead the Authority's Anti-Money Laundering/Anti-Terrorist Financing (AML/ATF) risk analytics and process transformation workstreams, ensuring that supervisory tools, data, documentation, and operating processes support effective, consistent, and risk-based supervision across regulated sectors. This role will provide leadership, from a data analytics perspective, over the development, refinement, calibration, governance, and practical use of the Authority's AML/ATF risk assessment frameworks and supporting methodologies. It will also drive AML team process improvement, data quality, workflow consistency, and transformation initiatives that strengthen supervisory planning, National Risk Assessment (NRA) support, and Mutual Evaluation Review (MER) preparedness. This is a key role for the Authority, and the post-holder will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Leading process transformation initiatives to improve the consistency, efficiency and quality of AML/ATF supervisory processes, including supervisory planning strategy, supervisory data inputs, remediation tracking, and reporting
  • Leading internal team change management on process improvement and transformation initiatives
  • Supporting integration of automation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools into AML team supervisory analytics, process and reporting, where appropriate
  • Leading, in collaboration with other BMA subject matter experts, the enhancement, calibration, governance, and documentation of the Authority's AML/ATF risk model methodology, including scoring approaches, logic, data mapping and underlying business rules
  • Participating, in collaboration with BMA subject matter experts, in the refinement of sectoral, sub-sectoral and entity-level risk assessment frameworks to ensure alignment with risk-based supervision principles, Financial Action Task Force (FATF) expectations, and the Authority's supervisory strategy
  • Overseeing the aggregation and analysis of macro-level compliance data from regulated entities, providing leadership and oversight for data collection, validation, review, and reporting processes supporting annual regulatory data calls, sectoral analysis, supervisory prioritisation, and risk-based resource allocation
  • Supporting the design and implementation of risk-sensitive approaches to key risk drivers, including customer risk, geographic exposure, product and service risk, delivery channel risk, sanctions exposure, external exposures (e.g., adverse media, financial intelligence), control effectiveness, and emerging Money Laundering/Terrorist Financing (ML/TF) risks
  • Preparing, reviewing, and enhancing technical documentation for risk models, process/procedure enhancements and data analytics
  • Providing recommendations to strengthen model governance, calibration consistency, quality assurance, supervisory usability, and defensibility of risk assessment outcomes
  • Contributing to the Authority's NRA workstreams through data visualisation, evidence gathering, and supporting documentation
  • Contributing to MER preparedness by providing clear, evidence-based, defensible, and risk-sensitive methodologies, narratives, processes, and supporting materials aligned with FATF standards and immediate outcomes
  • Participating in analytical reviews of sectoral data, supervisory findings, remediation trends, external developments, and emerging ML/TF risks to inform model enhancements, supervisory planning, and management decision-making
  • Managing, supporting, and developing staff or project resources assigned to risk analytics, process improvement, data, reporting, or transformation workstreams, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outputs
  • Establishing Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and operational performance metrics for the AML Supervision Team
  • Performing other related duties and special projects as assigned by management.

This position requires a proven technical, project management and financial sector background. Therefore, the post-holder must have:

  • A master's degree from a recognised institution in business administration, economics, statistics, data analytics, risk management, or related discipline; or equivalent professional qualification(s) from a recognised professional body combined with relevant work experience appropriate to the responsibilities of the position (e.g., PMP, ICA, CAMS, FRM, FIS).
  • A minimum of ten (10) years' relevant experience in AML/ATF risk assessment, regulatory supervision, financial crime analytics, model development, risk methodology, process transformation, project management or a related field. This experience must include management or project leadership experience, with at least five (5) years at a senior level within the financial services sector
  • Demonstrated experience developing, reviewing, calibrating, governing, or operationalising risk models, scoring methodologies, supervisory frameworks, or risk-based prioritisation tools within a regulatory or financial services environment with strong understanding of risk-based supervision, financial crime risk models, AML/ATF controls, supervisory planning, and regulatory decision-making processes
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets, identify risk trends, evaluate control effectiveness, and translate findings into practical risk assessment approaches, management insights and operational improvements.
  • Extensive experience leading process improvement, transformation, governance, automation, reporting, or data quality initiatives in a regulatory, compliance, risk management, financial crime, or supervisory environment
  • Experience preparing and reviewing technical documentation, including methodology papers, governance frameworks, business rules, standard operating procedures, analytical reports and senior management papers
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts and analytical outputs clearly to senior management, internal stakeholders and external parties
  • Demonstrated ability to foster stakeholder engagement, manage priorities, work independently, collaborate across departments, and support staff or project resources in delivering time-sensitive high-quality outputs
  • High attention to detail, sound judgement, discretion, adaptability, and commitment to producing defensible, operationally useful outputs
