Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Transportation Strategy Manager to lead in the development and delivery of local and regional transport policy across the County Borough. This is an exciting opportunity to shape a transport network that supports healthier lifestyles, vibrant town centres, economic growth and a greener future for generations to come. As the Transportation Strategy Manager, you will be required to deliver the Council’s ambitions for a sustainable, resilient and integrated transport network aligned with Welsh Government Policy, the Regional Transport Plan for South East Wales, Active Travel duties, decarbonisation targets and the revised Local Development Plan. The Successful candidate will need to demonstrate a strong background in transport planning, strategy and policy, ideally in a local authority or consultancy setting and be motivated to take a leading role in shaping future transport services for one of Wales’ largest councils, tackling challenges like climate change, social inequality, and creating more inclusive, sustainable travel options. You must possess a degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject (e.g. Transport / Planning). You will be required to advise on funding opportunities to deliver strategic objectives, collaborate with communities, regional partners and national bodies to innovate and influence change. Your leadership will help shape strategic investment, unlock new opportunities and deliver the authority’s transport vision. The permanent full-time position is based at Llys Cadwyn, Pontypridd, which benefits from excellent public transport and Active Travel links to Cardiff and the surrounding area. A hybrid working arrangement is currently in place with staff able to work from home and the office. The opportunity to work from home is likely to continue in the long term, at least on a part-week basis. Employment hours are 37 hours a week under the flexible working hours scheme, with 26 days annual leave (rising to 31 days after 5 years), and the opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme and staff benefits card.
