Company Description

WAGO is a global leader in automation and electrical interconnection technology, recognized for pioneering spring pressure connection solutions that ensure secure and maintenance-free operations. Established in Germany in 1951, WAGO remains a family-owned business driven by values of reliability, innovation, and sustainability. With over 7,500 employees globally, the company operates seven international production sites, nineteen sales companies, and maintains a presence in over 80 countries. WAGO serves diverse industries, including transportation, construction, and manufacturing, providing cutting-edge solutions for modern electrical engineering.

Role Description

This is a full-time, field-based role within the Sales Department, reporting to the Head of National Sales. The purpose of this role is to meet and exceed individual sales targets while developing and growing business opportunities within a defined sales territory.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and developing both existing customer accounts and new business opportunities. You will build strong customer relationships, identify growth opportunities, and provide consultative sales support that delivers value to customers and sustainable growth for the business.

Key responsibilities include managing sales activities across the East Midlands, generating and converting leads, maintaining accurate sales forecasts, and ensuring all customer interactions are recorded and managed effectively within the CRM system. You will represent the business professionally at customer meetings, exhibitions, seminars, and promotional events while maintaining a strong understanding of company products, solutions, and competitor offerings.

The role requires a proactive approach to territory planning, account management, opportunity development, and sales pipeline management. You will work closely with Sales, Marketing, Project, and Technical teams to deliver customer-focused solutions and ensure successful project implementation from initial engagement through to completion.

You will play a key role in identifying and developing new business opportunities, managing marketing-generated leads, presenting solutions, negotiating contracts, and supporting customers throughout the sales cycle. Success in the role will be driven by your ability to build strong relationships, understand customer needs, and consistently achieve agreed sales objectives and KPIs.

Collaboration is essential, with responsibility for supporting colleagues across Sales and Marketing teams by sharing best practices and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement. Strong communication, organisational, and time management skills are critical, along with the ability to manage territory activities in a cost-effective and efficient manner.

The role contributes directly to the growth and success of the organisation by delivering sales performance, strengthening customer relationships, developing new business opportunities, and supporting the achievement of strategic business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a field-based sales role, ideally within the industrial, electrical, automation or technical sector.
  • Strong track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets and KPIs.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop new business opportunities while maintaining and growing existing customer accounts.
  • Excellent relationship-building, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify customer needs and present value-driven solutions.
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage customer relationships, opportunities, and sales forecasting.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to manage a large territory effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Degree in Business Studies or a related discipline is desirable.
  • Management or business-related qualification is advantageous.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory.
  • Experience within the industrial electrical or automation industry would be a distinct advantage.
  • Self-motivated, customer-focused, and able to operate successfully in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to follow opportunities through to successful completion.
  • Positive, proactive, flexible, and committed to delivering exceptional customer service.
