Job DescriptionWhat if you could do the kind of work the world needs? At WSP, you can access our global scale, contribute to landmark projects and connect with the brightest minds in your field to do the best work of your life. You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you. A Little More About Your Role We are interested to hear from applicants with previous experience in project planning and programme controls within the UK electricity transmission and distribution sectors, including familiarity with design management, multidisciplinary interfaces, programme risks, and the delivery of complex energy infrastructure projects. This Role Includes

  • Development, maintenance and challenge of robust project programmes, including clear logic, dependencies, interfaces, key dates and critical path activities.
  • Working with project managers, design managers, technical leads and delivery teams to define deliverables, design review periods, client approvals and programme assumptions.
  • Proactive identification and management of programme interfaces, constraints, risks, opportunities and change impacts across internal teams, clients and stakeholders.
  • Creation, development and ongoing management of fully integrated project programmes, including resource loading, resource levelling, milestone tracking and progress forecasting.
  • Monitoring, control and reporting of progress against agreed baselines, including analysis of float, dependencies, slippage, recovery actions and forecast completion dates.
  • Supporting project controls activities by providing programme inputs to cost forecasting, resource planning, change management and project reporting.
  • Working closely with engineering and design management resources to sequence design activities, manage review periods, coordinate interfaces and support timely delivery of project deliverables.
  • Support to bid teams in the development of tender programmes, planning assumptions, delivery methodologies and responses to client programme requirements.
  • Supporting the delivery of consultancy services to clients through frameworks, with a focus on programme planning, reporting and controls.

WSP has a long track record supporting utilities, contracting organisations, developers, owners and government agencies around the globe on transmission and distribution projects throughout the lifecycle. We respond to clients’ needs by harnessing our knowledge, technical leadership and project management skills, serving in diverse roles including as technical advisors, owner’s engineers, development engineers and lender’s engineers to solve complex transmission and distribution problems and produce innovative, high-quality, cost-effective solutions. We’ve worked on every major element of power transmission and distribution network systems, including overhead power lines and towers, transformers and reactive compensation equipment, substations and switchyards, underground cables, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) and extra high-voltage (EHV) networks, as well as supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems and distribution management systems (DMS). Energy Networks is an expanding team having recently gone through a reorganisation. We are dispersed across WSP offices across the UK and are supported by WSP colleagues worldwide in the delivery of projects and services to clients. What We Will Be Looking For You To Demonstrate

  • Minimum of an HNC in a relevant engineering, construction, project controls or planning discipline.
  • Experience developing, maintaining and challenging project programmes for energy transmission and distribution projects, ideally within the UK electricity sector.
  • Knowledge or prior experience of the UK regulated and non-regulated transmission and distribution sectors, including the programme implications of design management, client reviews, interfaces and delivery risks.
  • Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6, with the ability to build logic-linked programmes, manage dependencies, resource load and level activities, analyse progress and support recovery planning.
  • A proactive approach to planning, with confidence to create, develop, test and challenge programmes rather than simply record updates.
  • Experience liaising with project managers, design managers, technical teams, clients and stakeholders to obtain planning inputs, agree assumptions and communicate programme risks and opportunities. Knowledge of NEC4 contracts would be desirable.
