About XCN
XCN is a growing multidisciplinary engineering design consultancy specialising in the data centre sector.
We support clients globally, providing services across Design Management, CSA, Mechanical, Electrical, ICT/ELV, Security and BIM.
Our teams support projects from early feasibility and concept development through detailed design, coordination and construction-stage support.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Business Development Executive to support the next stage of XCN’s growth.
Working closely with the Managing Director, Project Controls and Operations team, and XCN’s technical leads, the successful candidate will be responsible for identifying new opportunities, developing client relationships and helping expand our engineering and design consultancy services.
This is a client-facing role suited to someone who understands the data centre sector and can confidently represent XCN with developers, operators, contractors, consultants, investors and project partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and qualify new project and partnership opportunities across the data centre sector.
- Develop relationships with new and existing clients across Ireland, the UK, the Nordics and wider EMEA.
- Build and maintain a structured pipeline of business development opportunities.
- Research target markets, planned developments, key stakeholders and emerging data centre regions.
- Arrange and attend client introductions, meetings, presentations, conferences and industry events.
- Work with XCN’s technical teams to understand client requirements and define the appropriate scope of services.
- Coordinate expressions of interest, prequalification submissions, proposals and tender responses.
- Support the preparation of commercial proposals, capability presentations and client-specific submissions.
- Maintain regular contact with prospective clients and manage opportunities from initial engagement through to award or formal close-out.
- Support the growth of existing client accounts by identifying opportunities for additional services and project involvement.
- Provide clear handovers to the delivery team when new work is secured.
- Maintain accurate records of opportunities, contacts, actions, follow-ups and proposal status.
- Contribute to XCN’s wider business development strategy and regional growth plans.
Candidate Requirements
- Previous business development, account management or client-facing commercial experience within the data centre sector.
- Strong understanding of the data centre market, including the key organisations involved in development, design and delivery.
- Proven ability to identify opportunities and build long-term professional relationships.
- Strong communication, presentation and stakeholder-management skills.
- Commercially aware, organised and comfortable managing multiple opportunities at different stages.
- Ability to work closely with engineering teams and translate technical capability into a clear client proposition.
- Strong written skills, with experience contributing to proposals, presentations or tender submissions.
- Self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership of business development activity.
- Willingness to travel for client meetings, industry events and regional business development activity.
Desirable Experience
- An engineering, construction, technical consultancy or design background.
- Experience selling engineering design or professional consultancy services.
- Knowledge of multidisciplinary data centre design, including CSA, MEP, BIM, ICT/ELV or Design Management.
- Experience supporting business growth across the Nordics or wider EMEA.
- Experience using CRM systems or structured opportunity-tracking tools.
