Millions of students are receiving their A-Level results today, and for those who didn't secure their first-choice university place, clearing offers a second chance. The Perfect Opening Line

Hannah advises against overthinking your opening. Simply state your name, the course you're interested in, and ask if they can make you a verbal offer. Universities are expecting these calls, so they'll guide the conversation from there.

What to Have Ready

Be prepared to provide your clearing number or UCAS ID (if you have one), and be honest about your grades. Mention any mitigating circumstances or contextual information that might strengthen your application. You may also be asked about your motivation for the course, so have your reasons ready.

After the Call

Some universities will make a verbal offer immediately, while others may email you later. For competitive courses, you might need an interview. At the end of the call, ask clarifying questions about accommodation, additional requirements, or confirmation of the offer.
