After more than half a century in education, Eric Winstone is retiring this summer. His career began as a PE teacher in 1974 and culminated as Executive Principal and Chair of Governors, impacting thousands of students across Peterborough.
A Career of Leadership
Eric served as Headteacher of Bushfield Community College from 2001 to 2014, overseeing its transition to Ormiston Bushfield Academy in 2009. He then became Executive Principal, mentoring future school leaders—including two deputy principals who became principals themselves.
Beyond his school, he chaired the Peterborough Secondary Headteachers’ Association and served on the Local Authority’s Children’s Services Board. After retiring from school leadership, he remained active as Chair of Governors at Ormiston Meadows Academy since 2018.
A Lifelong Impact
Reflecting on his journey, Eric said: "Educating young people is a lifelong journey... I will be forever grateful for having had the opportunity to make a difference." He estimates having taught and supported over 5,000 young people.
