Aldi is making waves in the UK job market with a major expansion plan that's set to create over 1,100 new roles. This £370 million investment will see the supermarket open 40 new stores across the country, offering exciting opportunities for jobseekers.
Key Highlights of the Expansion
- Aldi plans to open 40 new UK stores as part of a £370m expansion
- Over 1,100 full- and part-time roles are being created, from assistants to managers
- Store Assistants will earn £13.50 nationally and up to £15.20 inside the M25
- The supermarket offers training, development, and clear career progression
- Applications can be made online via Aldi’s careers website for all positions
Aldi is set to recruit more than 1,100 new staff as part of this expansion, which will cover a range of roles, including full- and part-time store assistants, cleaners, and store managers. The supermarket currently operates over 1,080 stores in the UK.
In addition to creating new jobs, Aldi recently announced a pay rise for store employees, marking the second increase this year. From April 1, 2026, Store Assistants will earn £13.50 per hour nationally, with a rate of £14.88 per hour for those working inside the M25. Staff with longer service will see pay rise further, to £14.47 and £15.20 respectively. The supermarket says these rates now make it the "highest paying supermarket" in the UK.

Kelly Stokes, recruitment director at Aldi UK, said the expansion will create significant opportunities for those considering a career in retail. "We want to encourage more people across the UK to consider a career in retail, starting with high-quality training and development that gives people the skills and confidence to succeed," she said. "With market-leading pay, clear progression routes, and ongoing support, we’re helping more people grow in retail while bringing Aldi’s award-winning products to local communities."
