Jacob Meekin, a dedicated student from Templepatrick, is currently pursuing a Work-based Diploma in Horticulture at the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE). With a commitment of studying just one day per week at Greenmount Campus, he balances his education with his role at Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough (ANB) Council.

Specializing in Parks, Gardens, and Green Spaces
Jacob is enrolled in the Level 2 Horticulture course, which allows him to specialize in Parks, Gardens, and Green Spaces. This program is designed for individuals starting their careers in Horticulture and provides an opportunity for existing workers to formalize their skills and gain recognized qualifications.

Hands-On Experience in Horticulture
Jacob expresses his enthusiasm for working at ANB Council, particularly enjoying the summer months spent maintaining the beautiful Antrim Castle Gardens. He is often found trimming historic hedges and managing the Parterre Garden. In winter, he expands his experience by engaging in a variety of horticultural tasks throughout the borough.
His time at CAFRE has equipped him with practical skills and knowledge, particularly through hands-on projects that reinforce classroom learning. Jacob emphasizes the importance of understanding industry standards and specifications.
