Discover How Foundation Apprenticeships Are Shaping Scotland's Future Careers

Foundation Apprenticeships Making Waves in Scotland

Pupils from across Scotland are reaping the rewards of Foundation Apprenticeships, with the upcoming Scottish Apprenticeship Awards set to honor the achievements of talented young individuals. One standout is Emily Copeland, who successfully merged her passion for social media and football while working with the Queen of the South team.

Inspiring Young Achievers

The Scottish Apprenticeship Awards, happening at Perth Concert Hall on February 27, will celebrate teens who have opted for a Foundation Apprenticeship alongside their academic subjects. These apprenticeships are designed to equip students with the skills employers seek, providing a pathway from SCQF Level 4 to SCQF Level 6, equivalent to a Scottish Higher.

Emily Copeland's Success Story

Emily, an 18-year-old from Dumfries, took on a Creative and Digital Media Foundation Apprenticeship in her final year at Dumfries High School. She secured a position at her local football club, where she managed their social media and grew their following to 7,000. Emily stated, “Choosing a Foundation Apprenticeship allowed me to support my club and gain invaluable work experience.” Her initiative led to the club hiring another Foundation Apprentice, whom she now mentors.

Kaleb Mbase's Journey

Another inspiring story comes from Kaleb Mbase, a 17-year-old from Dumbarton, who pursued a Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services. His experience at Bellsmyre Early Education Centre confirmed his ambition to become a Childcare Practitioner. Kaleb remarked, “The Foundation Apprenticeship gave me a real insight into childcare and confirmed my passion for it.”

Logan Forsyth's Path to Construction

Logan Forsyth from Glasgow is on track for a career in construction, having completed his Foundation Apprenticeship with GRAHAM Construction. He aims to demonstrate that dyslexia is not a barrier to success. Logan achieved high marks in his coursework and is now an Apprentice Site Manager with plans for a Graduate Apprenticeship.

Celebrating Achievements

The winner of the Foundation Apprentice of the Year will be unveiled during the awards ceremony, part of the lead-up to Scottish Apprenticeship Week from March 3-7.
