Empowering Women in Technology
The third annual #BeMeDigitalInclusion Sustainable Tech Careers event is set to take place in London on 10 October. This initiative, organized by Academy Achievers, aims to inspire young women and girls to explore and pursue careers in technology.
This year's event introduces the first #BeMe Introductory AI Chip & Semiconductor course, highlighting cutting-edge areas in tech. Paulette Watson MBE, founder and managing director of Academy Achievers, emphasized the importance of inclusion, stating, "You can’t meet national growth and productivity targets without fully engaging young women and girls." She described the program as "more than a programme; it is a global pipeline for equitable freedom and parity."
Attendees will benefit from a hands-on experience featuring live workshops, demonstrations, portfolio and CV clinics to prepare for job applications, and mentoring sessions with alumni, industry leaders, and recruiters. The event also provides opportunities for networking with peers and employers.
The organizers note that this event aligns with the UK government's national semiconductor strategy and addresses identified skills shortages in areas like design, compound semiconductors, and advanced packaging. Other relevant initiatives include the Lifelong Learning Entitlement and Skills England, which focus on digital and green skills.
#BeMeDigitalInclusion has expanded from a UK-based program to connect young women and girls from London to Accra, broadening access to technology careers globally.
