A Gateway to Healthcare Careers
Careers in the caring professions took center stage during a recent visit to the University of Chichester by students from the Skills Bootcamp in Nursing at Chichester College. This government-funded scheme, supported by West Sussex County Council, was developed through collaboration between Chichester College, the University of Chichester, and the RCN King’s Nursing cadets. It's specifically designed for individuals considering a career in healthcare or looking to make a significant career change.
What Are Skills Bootcamps?
Skills Bootcamps are free government-funded training programmes available to eligible adults over 19. The Nursing Skills Bootcamp is an intensive 12-week programme that equips students with essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed to work in various healthcare settings. Whether you're just starting out or looking to return to the workforce, this bootcamp offers a practical pathway into the world of nursing.
Hands-On Learning Experience
As part of their course, students spent two days at the University of Chichester, where they received clinical teaching from experienced staff and heard from a BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing graduate about why they chose a career in the caring profession.
Dr. Nita Muir, Head of the School of Nursing and Allied Health, shared: "We are delighted to support individuals from all walks of life who aspire to join the Nursing profession. The focus over the last few days has been on patient safety across different care settings. Learners received exceptional teaching, accessed our modern, state-of-the-art facilities and heard from our graduates who are now thriving in diverse health care roles."
Real Stories of Career Transformation
One attendee explained their motivation: "I signed up for the Nursing Skills Bootcamp because I was looking for a complete career change from my work in Finance. It's been great hearing from people in the profession about why they choose nursing as a career and how rewarding it can be. It's shown me that a career in nursing is what I really want to pursue."
