Discovering Careers: How Children Are Inspired by Housing and Construction Jobs

Children Gain Insights into Careers in Housing
Children from Manor Park Primary School in Longridge recently visited Great Places Housing Group's head office, where they explored a wide array of career opportunities in housing. About 30 Year 5 students were engaged and excited to learn about various roles.
A Day of Learning and Exploration
During their visit, the pupils met employees from different departments such as communications, construction, human resources, and finance. They even got hands-on experience using a surveyor's measuring wheel, a crucial tool for measuring distances.

This visit marks the third year of the Inspiring Futures project, designed to build and sustain the financial resilience of the community and nurture the aspirations of young people.
Engaging Activities and Community Involvement
The pupils participated in various activities while wearing high vis jackets and hard hats, learning about different careers in housing. Guy Cresswell, Executive Director of Customers, and Steve Mather, Chief Property Officer, warmly welcomed them, emphasizing the importance of creating vibrant communities.
Collaborating with Local Businesses
The children also interacted with suppliers like Emmanuel Whittaker and Simon Fenton Partnership, who elaborated on careers in property management, quantity surveying, and regeneration. Nick Abbott from Simon Fenton Partnership highlighted their commitment to offering opportunities for apprentices and graduates.
