Dream Big: Street School Event Opens Eyes to Future Careers

A school careers event in Street has provided Year Six pupils from Elmhurst and St Ben’s Junior School with an inspiring glimpse into their future possibilities. The event, held on Thursday, June 19, featured 20 volunteers from diverse fields including veterinary medicine, general practice, nursing, plumbing, firefighting, law, and the prison service.

Highlights of the event included:

• Pupils trying on firefighter and prison officer uniforms
• Engaging in practical plumbing challenges
• Participating in a law-themed quiz, with one pupil scoring a perfect nine out of nine

The head of futures at Millfield School kicked off the event with a talk encouraging pupils to think broadly about their future. The enthusiasm was palpable, with one student, Archie, calling it "the best afternoon," thanks to the opportunity to ask questions and receive expert answers.

Mrs Carpenter from Elmhurst Junior School remarked on the incredible energy in the room, noting how the children were "buzzing with excitement" to share their experiences. The school extended its gratitude to all volunteers, whose contributions have inspired the young attendees to dream big about their future careers.
