Flau'Jae Johnson: Balancing Basketball and Stardom During March Madness

Flau’Jae Johnson Shifts Focus to NCAA Tournament
For now, LSU star guard Flau’Jae Johnson is putting her rap career and podcasting on hold to concentrate on the NCAA Tournament and help the Tigers secure another national title. Johnson stated, “I’m not focused on my music, I’m not focused on my podcast... I’m focused on winning the national championship.”
Off-Court Talents Shine
Even though she's not focusing on music, Johnson's talents are still visible during March Madness. She is featured in a Powerade ad campaign that is frequently aired throughout the tournament. Johnson first gained fame by appearing on “America’s Got Talent” in 2018, where she reached the quarterfinals.
Musical Journey
Last year, she released her debut album, “Best of Both Worlds,” and has collaborated with rapper Lil Wayne. Johnson's music career was inspired by her late father, rapper Camoflauge. Additionally, she hosts a podcast of the same name, where she interviews prominent stars from the basketball world.
NCAA Success
Recently, Johnson and the Tigers advanced to the Elite Eight, beating N.C. State 80-73. They will face top-seeded UCLA, a team they previously met in last year’s tournament, where Johnson excelled with a 24-point, 12-rebound double-double.
Recognition and Pressure
UCLA head coach Cori Close praised Johnson not only for her basketball skills but also for her impact on the sport, stating, “I admire how she’s juggled all the different things that she does in life.” Johnson embraces pressure, stating, “with pressure, you either break pipes or make diamonds, and I like diamonds.”
