From Apprentices to Entrepreneurs: How Two Ceredigion Friends Turned Dreams into Reality

Inspiring Journeys of Two Ceredigion Apprentices
Two apprentices from Ceredigion, Jason Vale and Rosie Morgan, have transformed their lives through their Welsh Government funded apprenticeships in upholstery at Needle Rock. Their stories highlight the incredible opportunities apprenticeships can provide, and they are now aspiring to run a business together.
The Apprenticeship Experience
Jason, who began his journey in upholstery in 2021 through a Jobs Growth Wales scheme, initially pursued a degree in English Literature and History. Faced with limited job opportunities post-graduation, he turned to apprenticeships, encouraged by his mentor, Ali. He emphasizes that apprenticeships open many doors and provide a viable alternative to university.
“University isn’t the only path to building your career; an apprenticeship is a great way to learn, gain qualifications, and earn money while doing it.” - Jason Vale
Jason has recently completed his Level 2 apprenticeship and is now working on a Level 3, focusing on Business Improvement Techniques. He has won the Foundation Apprentice of the Year award, showcasing his dedication and skills.
Building Confidence and Skills
Rosie, who has been an apprentice at Needle Rock for four years, credits her apprenticeship for boosting her confidence and helping her develop practical skills, including completing an Industrial Sewing Machine Repair Course. She shares:
“My apprenticeship has helped me realize my potential and abilities.” - Rosie Morgan
The duo has not only developed professionally but also forged a strong friendship, working closely together and supporting each other.
Celebrating Apprenticeships
Apprenticeship Week Wales, taking place from 10 to 16 February 2025, will highlight the significant contributions of apprenticeships to learners, employers, and the Welsh economy, celebrating the positive impacts they have across the community.
