From Passion to Profession: How One Teen Turned His Love for Sport into a Career with Expert Guidance

Sixteen-year-old Joseff Thomas from Llandderfel, Gwynedd, has always been passionate about sport, but he wasn't sure how to channel that passion into a viable career. That changed when he connected with Careers Wales, a service that provides invaluable support to young people across the UK.

How Careers Advisers Make a Difference

Careers adviser Guto Dafydd visited Joseff's school and explained how careers advisers can assist with choosing the right courses, planning for the future, and navigating college applications. Together, they crafted a personalized plan that blended practical and academic studies to suit Joseff's interests and learning style.

Crafting the Perfect Educational Path

Guto helped Joseff apply for college and select a course that aligned with his goals. Joseff will now pursue a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport alongside A level Biology. This combination offers the hands-on learning he enjoys and the academic credentials needed for university admission.

"The BTEC was more practical and had fewer exams, which suits the way I learn," Joseff shared. "We also looked at the entry requirements for the university I wanted to attend and mapped out a clear path to get there. It made me feel more confident about my future in further education. I now have a solid plan."

Looking Ahead with Optimism

Joseff is optimistic about his GCSE results and excited for the opportunities that lie ahead. While he hopes to attend university after college, he remains open to exploring new possibilities as he progresses in his studies. "I think I will get good grades, and I want to see what doors open up," he said.

Encouragement for Other Young People

Joseff encourages other teens to seek guidance from careers advisers. "Just use the help from careers advisers. They are a big help for understanding what career path you want to pursue or how to apply for college or sixth form. Guto was very helpful and answered all my questions in a simple way I could understand."

Support for All Young People in Wales
