An Inspiring Career Journey in Medicine and Public Health
Thank you to Professor Delan Devakumar for a fascinating Careers Breakfast on the subject of Medicine, Public Health and Global Health.
Younger pupils joined aspiring medics from the Upper and Lower Sixth in the Terrace Cafe for Professor Devakumar’s talk.
From his time in Medical School and his early career as a pediatrician in the UK and New Zealand, to his work with Médecins Sans Frontières in South Sudan, Pakistan and Myanmar, pupils were interested to hear about the different challenges he faced in each location.
Now a Professor of Global Child Health, Professor Devakumar gave an insight into the life of an academic, which has included speaking at COP27, and his current research on child mortality before speaking to pupils about how climate change, racism and xenophobia affect health outcomes.
Next week, we will welcome Sgt Tiff Gittins from the RAF. Senior School pupils can register on SOCS (Senior School events) now.
