School pupils were given the valuable opportunity to explore future career pathways through a hands-on experience day.

Children from Years 2 to 6 at West Lynn Primary School took part in an apprentice day, an in-depth educational experience where pupils can gain an insight into various career sectors.

A World of Choices

Options included baking, carpentry, art, sewing, crafts, jewellery making, teaching, and journalism. These choices expanded into rugby, sports retail, and even musical theatre.

How It Works

Dan Ryan, assistant head teacher and organizer of the annual event, explained: “Once the children have completed an application to their top three jobs, they complete a mini CV selling themselves to their chosen career. They are then allocated one of the activities where they spend the whole day learning from an expert in that field.”

Hands-On Learning

Most activities were practical. Pupils built benches, baked cakes and biscuits, sewed bookmarks and an apron, and created tie-dye shirts. The theatre group choreographed a routine to ‘Circle of Life’, the West Norfolk Rugby Club put their apprentices through sporting paces, and budding journalists went in search of a scoop.

A Sense of Accomplishment

Mr. Ryan said: “Every child left with a smile on their face, and a sense of accomplishment.”
