How a Rugby Star's Scholarship is Paving the Way for a Bright Future in Business

A Talented Rugby Player's Journey

A talented rugby player has received an incredible opportunity to advance his education and continue playing, thanks to a scholarship from the University of Salford’s Business School. Adam Hinchliffe, now in his third year studying Business Management with Sport, is on track to graduate this summer, a recognition of his hard work, passion, and commitment to the local sporting community.

Balancing Studies and Sport

Born and raised in Bury, Adam plays for Blackburn RUFC while also working with the Salford Red Devils. He aims to build a career in the club’s commercial division post-graduation. Starting rugby at the age of four, Adam spent most of his amateur career at Bury RUFC before joining Blackburn two seasons ago.

The Impact of the Scholarship

Reflecting on his journey, Adam shared, “After college, I was unsure about my future. The scholarship has opened many doors, allowing me to integrate into different areas of the industry while applying my academic knowledge in real-time.” He appreciates the support from the University, which has alleviated financial worries by covering his tuition fees.

Gaining Industry Experience

His role at Salford Red Devils has expanded his understanding of what contributes to a club's success. The University recently announced its continued partnership with the club, serving as the front of shirt sponsor for the upcoming season.

Commitment to Community and Education

Lynne Barrow, Director of Recruitment at Salford Business School, emphasized the University’s commitment to social and economic change. Supporting Adam not only helps him but also enriches the local sporting community.

Preparing for a Bright Future

Adam’s course has equipped him with essential skills for a career in the global sports industry, covering areas like event management, marketing, digital technologies, and sports media. His academic knowledge, combined with hands-on experience at Salford Red Devils, positions him for success as he approaches graduation.

A Grateful Heart

“I couldn’t have asked for a better university experience,” Adam concluded. “The combination of academic learning and real-time application has motivated me to chase my dream career. I am grateful to the University and Salford Red Devils for this opportunity to build a successful career in a field I am passionate about.”
