A careers event organized by Rotary St Helens has successfully inspired the next generation of dreamers, broadening children's horizons and raising awareness of diverse career opportunities.
Rotary St Helens organized the event to help children explore various job roles and inspire them on their life journey. Gaynor Winstanley, vocational lead at Rotary St Helens, emphasized: "The purpose of the event is to open children’s minds to the various different job roles that are available to them and to inspire them on their journey in life."
Building on four years of similar events at individual schools, this year's edition took place at Holy Cross Primary School, bringing together Year 6 pupils from two faith schools: Holy Cross and Parish Church Primary.
Pupils had the chance to engage directly with professionals from a dozen fields, asking questions about daily responsibilities, required qualifications, and what it takes to succeed.
Paul Platt, deputy headteacher at Holy Cross Primary, said: "The Careers Education Event was a real success. It was great to see the Year 6 children of both schools come together to share and develop their aspirations. The event was an enjoyable and engaging way of making the children more aware of potential future careers and it also provided them with the opportunity to ask questions of the different professionals. It was a valuable experience that will hopefully have an impact on our children going forward."
The children reflected on what they learned during the day and discussed how the event had inspired them to consider specific career paths.
This focus on early inspiration and guidance is at the heart of Rotary St Helens’ belief in giving every child the best possible start in life. The event is part of the group’s wider efforts to encourage ambition and raise aspirations across the community.
Stuart Hardy, headteacher at Parish Church Primary School, added: "Our Year 6 pupils at Parish Primary School had the fantastic opportunity to attend a Careers Educational Event at Holy Cross Primary School. The event was buzzing with energy as pupils from both Parish and Holy Cross explored a wide range of professions, from healthcare and engineering to creative industries and emergency services. They met inspiring professionals who shared their experiences and offered valuable insights into the skills and qualities needed for success."
