Inspiring Future Careers: Schoolchildren Explore Diverse Industries at Hotel Polurrian Event

Primary school children in Cornwall have been given a unique opportunity to explore various career paths through a "meet the professionals" event hosted by Hotel Polurrian, Mullion. This initiative, now in its second year, aims to inspire and educate Year 6 pupils from Mullion Primary School about the diverse roles within different sectors.

Engaging with Professionals

The event saw ten and 11-year-olds interacting with professionals from a range of industries, including:

• Hotel management
• Front-of-house operations
• Catering
• Architecture
• Engineering
• Project planning

These professionals were part of the Hotel Polurrian team and contractors involved in the hotel's upcoming redevelopment, providing a real-world context to the discussions.

Community and Educational Commitment

Andrew Long, owner of Hotel Polurrian, expressed pride in supporting the local community and inspiring the next generation. The event, organized in collaboration with Mullion Primary School, is designed to spark curiosity and build confidence among young people about their future careers.

Rob Chirgwin, headteacher at Mullion Primary School, highlighted the invaluable nature of such opportunities, emphasizing how they bring learning to life and expose students to a wide range of career options.

Broader Initiatives

This event is part of Hotel Polurrian's wider commitment to community engagement and education. In 2025, the hotel has participated in several on-site career events at local schools and has pledged to refurbish the former Lifeguard Building in Polurrian Cove, further demonstrating its dedication to educational growth and community development.
