Inspiring Future Careers: Telford Primary School's Engaging Careers Day for Kids as Young as Five

Children as young as five years old are already exploring their future career paths, thanks to an innovative careers fair at Wrekin View Primary School in Telford. The event, which has returned bigger and better after last year's success, offers talks, Q&A sessions, and hands-on activities led by volunteer parents, making various professions seem more realistic and achievable to the young attendees.
A Glimpse into Diverse Professions
The pupils had the unique opportunity to gain first-hand insights into a wide range of careers, including farming, nursing, hairdressing, geotechnical engineering, boat-building, butchery, journalism, and health and safety inspection. This exposure is crucial in broadening their horizons and sparking interest in fields they might not have considered before.

A Week of Exploration
The careers fair is running for one hour each day from May 12 to 16, ensuring as many pupils as possible can learn about potential future jobs and the pathways to achieving them. Paul Kilburn, the school's assistant headteacher and personal development lead, highlighted the event's success and the positive atmosphere it has created among the students.

"There is a real buzz about the school," Kilburn said, noting the excitement among pupils as they discuss the careers they've discovered. The involvement of parents has made the professions seem more attainable, fostering a sense of possibility and ambition among the children.
